Whybe a reader - because Audiobooks exist

Whybe a reader - because Audiobooks exist

The holidays are right around the corner, and people have some time off and are traveling (or staying at home with their dog like me!). My friends have been asking me if I have some good holiday book suggestions.... and of course I do!  I'm currently in three book clubs - one at work, one with yoga friends, and one through other friends. I also like to read outside of these book club books for my personal enjoyment and learning. What I love about being in multiple book clubs is that I have the opportunity to read different genres, and have the freedom to discuss various subjects with all kinds of people who have a diverse spectrum of opinions and perspectives.

With all the books on my "Need to Read List," (which is growing every week!), another question I get is "Where do you get the time to read all these books?" This is where the invention of Audiobooks has been my saving grace through Houston traffic. I have a 25-30 minute commute to and from work each way, which is an hour minimum that I get to "read" my books. So whether you're wanting to drown out the family small talk during Thanksgiving, or you need a way to occupy yourself on your work commute like me, see below for a list of the Audiobooks that got me loving Audiobooks.

Big Little Lies - Liane Moriarty

For when you need a little drama and suspense in your life...

I've been known to read books twice through, but rarely do I read a book for a third. I listened to the audiobook once for my own pleasure, and then twice more for book clubs and I didn't complain once because this book is that great. It made my jaw drop multiple times and out loud (by myself in my car) "OMG!" Plus, it's a TV series so you can have a visual of the characters and scenery while you listen.

Yes Please - Amy Poehler

For when you feel like you need a good conversation with a best girl friend...

I was already a fan of Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation is my guilty binge-watching pleasure!), and after listening to her memoir, I love her even more. I love audiobooks for any genre, and memoirs are my favorite because most of the time they're read by the author. She's exactly how I imagined her to be from watching her on TV and I felt like I was listening to my best friend tell me stories.

The Couple Next Door - Shari Lapena

If you don't easily get nightmares....

More than once, I found myself sitting with my car in park once I reached work to finish a chapter of this book because I wanted to know what would happen. Right when I thought I had it figured out, I would be completely wrong and wanting to listen more to find out what happened. It's dark, twisted, and it might give you nightmares, and I highly recommend this audiobook.

Better Than Before - Gretchen Rubin

What I'm listening to now!

I bought this book because of this quiz I found posted online by a friend -- p.s. I'm an Upholder! I love the process of self-inquiry and find it fascinating to learn how different types of people interact/live their lives. I'm only about a third of the way in, and be looking for a full review once I'm finished!
